  • Sport has the power to change the world! Laureus Sport for Good aims to use the power of sports to fight violence, discrimination and unfairness against children and young people. Mercedes-Benz was a co-founder of Laureus Sport for Good. This cooperation has now become the brand's most important social commitment. Together, Laureus and Mercedes-Benz are committed to offer disadvantaged young people around the world a perspective: Through sport, children and young people discover their strengths and learn to make the most of themselves - important experiences from which they will benefit throughout their lifes.

  • An example of this is the Kicking Girls project (website only in German), which also has a location in Berlin. Jens Lehmann, Laureus ambassador and patron of the Kicking Girls: "It is a great project because the girls are trained by female coaches and can play in their familiar environment, namely their school. This lowers the inhibition threshold for girls with a migrant background in particular to participate in the training. In my active career, I myself have experienced that on the football pitch it doesn't matter what skin colour you have, what country you come from or what religion you believe in. It's the team spirit that counts."

  • Laureus Sport for Good (S4G) is one of the world's leading development sports foundations. S4G was inspired by the words of its patron, Nelson Mandela, who said at the first Laureus Awards ceremony in 2000: "Sport has the power to change the world". The Foundation supports over 160 programmes in more than 40 countries. These are implemented by grassroots organisations that are deeply rooted in their local communities and understand how sport can be used to overcome the barriers faced by children and young people in the region. We support these organizations by providing resources and knowledge sharing. All activities we support are measured against standards for community service projects set by the United Nations in line with sustainable development goals.
